- Domain Name
A domain name is your website's address on the internet. It is a series of letters and numbers followed by an extension, such as example.com, which points to a specific IP address where your website files are hosted.
Domain names must be registered through a domain name registrar, which are businesses accredited by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). ICANN is the entity in charge of overseeing domain names. Domain name registration for a *.com domain can run from $8 a year to $35, depending on which registrar you use.
- Hosting Space
Data storage space which is accessed via the internet by a domain name, such as www.example.com. The files and images that make up your website are stored in this storage space. Think of it this way: Your hosting space is like the land on which your house is built. A house has to sit somewhere!
