How should I use Facebook and Twitter for my hotel or B&B?
Social networking websites like Facebook and Twitter are free, easy ways to stay in touch with your customers. Here are some ideas on how to use your Facebook page and Twitter account for your hotel or B&B:
First, create a schedule
Decide how often you want to update You can link Facebook and Twitter accounts together, so what you post on Facebook will automatically show up on Twitter. This is a great idea if you are short on time. However, Twitter and Facebook are very different networking sites, so you might want to create unique content for each.
We recommend updating at least once a week. Maybe post a picture on Monday or Tuesday, and share an update or recommendation on Thursday or Friday. An abandoned Facebook page is bad news. You don't want visitors thinking you are closed because you forgot to update. (We have seen this happen to a hotel.)
Availability / Packages
Try using Twitter to announce last-minute openings and deals. Keep your statements short & to the point. "Room 7 is open for $99 Fri & Sat! Breakfast included. 884-#### to book." Twitter users are used to multiple posts per day, as long as they are informative.
Facebook is a great place to offer exclusive packages. "20% off to Facebook fans this weekend only! Waterfront rooms. Call 883-#### and mention this post."
Show off your photos & videos
Use the photo gallery feature on Facebook to show off your rooms, luxury features like swimming pools and spas, or post recent guest photos. This is especially important if you have made changes to your hotel or B&B, but you haven't yet updated your website. (And don't forget to update your website!)
You can also upload videos to Facebook. This is an easy way to give people insider access into recent events you've hosted! Maybe it will inspire them to book for next year.
Ask questions
One of the best ways to use Facebook is to interact with your guests, former and future, not simply posting information. If you're making changes at the hotel, ask what they think! Engage them in conversation about local restaurants and shops.
Link to media mentions
If you just got written up in the Knot or a major publication, tell your fans about it! Use discretion, though. They don't need to hear about every single one. Link to publications they might know and care about.
