Facebook Fan Page or Personal Profile?
"Should I set up a "Fan Page" or a personal profile for my business on Facebook?"
This is a great question, and one we get a lot!
Businesses should use the business page option, per Facebook's terms of use. Profiles are intended for personal use only and have different security settings.
My biggest reason for urging businesses to use the Page vs. Profile is to protect the privacy of your fans. Some Facebook users may not realize that when they "Friend" a business that uses a personal profile rather than a page, they have granted that business (and its employees who edit the profile) access to any personal information they share with Friends. Further, if a person allows Friends of Friends to view her personal information, she has just allowed any other friends of the business to access her personal info as well.
Page administrators, on the other hand, have no access to their fans' personal information, which is how it should be.
